Awards recognize best use of social media in product development

Beachwood, OH – Chad Jackson, founder and President of Lifecycle Insights, an independent research and advisory firm, has joined the judging panel for the upcoming Spike Awards. The Spike Awards recognize the best use of social media and social computing (Web 2.0) to improve innovation, product development, and product management.

Formerly of the Aberdeen Group, Chad is a recognized authority on design and engineering in new product development and introduction with over fifteen years of experience in the industry. “Because social media solves that barrier problem in our personal lives, there’s no reason it can’t solve that barrier problem in our professional lives. That’s where instant messenger, forums, wikis and all other sorts of web 2.0 technologies can come into play,” Chad said in a podcast interview. “There aren’t enough people in product development leveraging it because they just assume today’s problems can’t be solved. It’s actually a little secret that could be turned into competitive advantage.”

Chad joins an expert panel of industry and Web 2.0 experts that will judge Spike Awards entries based on the identified business challenge, approach to problem, creativity of solution, and results that relate back to the business problem.

The Spike Awards are open to organizations of all sizes in the following four industry categories:

  • Technology Industry: High tech, consumer electronics, computer hardware, semiconductor, telecommunications, networking
  • Life Sciences Industry: Medical device & supplies, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare
  • Consumer Packaged Goods Industry: Consumer goods, food & beverage, retail, household, beauty, apparel
  • Manufacturing Industry: Discrete, automotive, industrial, chemical, aerospace & defense

Winners of the 2010 Spike Awards will be recognized at the Spike Awards reception at the 34th Annual PDMA Conference on Product Innovation Management October 19, 2010 in Orlando, Florida.
