Rapid ResultsBusiness-Driven PLM Implementation Methodology

There are as many product lifecycle management (PLM) implementation methodologies out there as there are software solution providers. Most can guide companies through the tactical steps of configuring and testing software, but few can provide a roadmap for process and performance improvement.

PLM methodology Rapid Results is designed to do just that.

Rapid Results is so named because the methodology is explicitly engineered to increase an organization’s ability to drive true enterprise-wide innovation and quickly extract real business value from PLM. Its proven, leading practice-based approach is the result of continual insights and lessons learned from hundreds of PLM implementations.

The Rapid Results Difference

Rapid Results goes beyond the technical steps of configuring, testing and deploying PLM software, providing a comprehensive and flexible approach to address organizations’ specific needs.

Three key aspects of Rapid Results set it apart from other PLM methodologies:

Business-Results Focus

Total PLM solution

Relentless pursuit of business results

Rapid Results not only advocates developing a business case but also establishes a mechanism to measure results and make adjustments as necessary to ensure business goals and benefits are attained – well beyond go-live.

Rapid Prototyping

Closely engages the end user community

Adapts to evolving business requirements

Rapid Results is based on an iterative prototyping approach to solution design rather than a waterfall approach seen in other application implementations. It is superior in its ability to handle changing business requirements and is better suited to provide consistent engagement with the end user community during the design phase.

True Organization Transformation

The work facilitates user adoption, organizational change

Rapid Results recognizes how the project work itself can facilitate user adoption, which is often synonymous with end user training and occasional change management restructuring processes. Rapid Results goes a step beyond that, taking advantage of the core solution design, testing and deployment processes as a lever to facilitate and enhance the user adoption process.

Tour of Rapid Results

The Methodology

Rapid Results encompasses all of the work required in the lifecycle of a PLM implementation, from a business, project management, technology and organizational perspective. Yet, the flexible framework allows for different project launch points.

The methodology spans six key project phases and five work threads

Each thread consists of work modules that are executed during one or more of the phases. The work modules are groupings of related tasks that guide the creation of project deliverables.

The 6 Phases

Assess and define a clear set of business objectives, align executives and plan PLM

Mobilize project management processes; onboard, educate and empower project team

Design and develop PLM business solution; prepare organization for upcoming changes

Test and validate that the solution meets business needs; ensure readiness for go-live

Deploy solution across the organization, train end users and lead adoption

Optimize performance and fine-tune solution to ensure value is realized

The Modules

The Work Modules are the core components of Rapid Results - tasks that guide the creation of project deliverables.

Each Work Module has an associated Work Module Approach that provides guidance on how to complete the defined work. Modules outline key considerations, lessons learned and leading practices, and offer a standard, repeatable framework to avoid "reinventing the wheel," freeing time for value-added activities.
