Inaugural awards program honors social media use for innovation, product development
ORLANDO, Florida – Kalypso, the world’s premier innovation consulting firm, today announced the winners of the 2010 Spike Awards for best use of social media and social technologies to improve innovation, product development, and product management. The first annual Spike (Social Product Innovation Knowledge Excellence) Awards were announced at the 34th Annual PDMA Conference on Product Innovation Management being held October 16-20, 2010 in Orlando, Florida.
“The 2010 Spike Awards winners are leaders in demonstrating the strategic, real-world value of using social media in the innovation process,” said Bill Poston, managing partner of Kalypso. “During this early adoption phase of social product innovation, the marketplace should take note of the admirable benefits each of the winners has achieved, and recognize the potential for significant operational and financial results in their own organizations.”
Winners in four industry categories—Technology, Life Sciences, Consumer Packaged Goods, and Manufacturing/Other—were chosen by a panel of experts in product innovation and social media. A fifth award category, People’s Choice, was determined by online voting. An overview of each winning entry is available on the Spike Awards website at http://spikeawards.com.
The 2010 Spike Awards winners are:
- Technology: Corrigo
- Life Sciences: Eli Lilly
- Consumer Packaged Goods: Kimberly-Clark
- Manufacturing/Other: Quirky
- People’s Choice: Kimberly-Clark
People’s Choice Winner: Kimberly-Clark
Kimberly-Clark was the recipient of the People’s Choice award after receiving 75 percent of the online vote. Kimberly-Clark’s award entry was for Huggies® MomInspired™, a grant program that provides funding for business and product ideas inspired by motherhood.
“From an R&D and product development standpoint, we realize we need to find new and different ways to source innovation – in this case, through the lens of our most important consumer, mom,” said Steve Paljieg, senior director, corporate innovation for Kimberly-Clark. “That’s why we believe the Huggies® MomInspired™ program is such a win-win: for mom inventors as well as for the innovative commercial opportunities they will inspire for Kimberly-Clark.”
