PLM Strategy Case Study: Consumer Business
PLM strategy, systems selection and implementation case study in the consumer business industry.
Objective
One of the world's leading providers of cleaning and hygiene solutions wanted to optimize product development. The company had recently acquired a company of similar size and wanted to streamline New Product Development (NPD) by using Product Lifecycle Management (PLM). The client was interested in a PLM solution that would help the company to leverage technology and intellectual assets across various divisions, better manage its product portfolio, and reduce communication barriers in the product development process.
Solution
The company turned to Kalypso for help auditing the client's existing processes and IT infrastructure, comprised of many disparate systems and home grown solutions. Kalypso assisted the client in identifying areas for process and technology improvements and developing a comprehensive PLM strategy based on the client's top priorities.
We collaborated with executives on creating the business case for PLM, assessing possible software solutions, and ultimately selecting a PLM solution that provided the best organizational fit. Kalypso created an implementation roadmap based on a phased approach to PLM that included modules such as Project and Portfolio Management, Customer and Supplier Collaboration, Product Portfolio Management, and Product Data Management.
Results
Today, the client is beginning to reap the benefits of PLM and expanding solution functionality according to Kalypso's phased implementation approach. The company is seeing greater departmental collaboration on NPD initiatives and has begun to identify opportunities for product design and technology re-use, helping to decrease product development costs.
