William Sun - A Character With Character
...because interesting people are more fun to work with
I am from Sugar Land, Texas and I want to experience everything. My family immediately knew my career would involve some sort of large mechanical objects when, at age three, I could already name all of the car manufacturers on the road. However, it actually took a long time for me to find the right profession. When I was a kid, I aspired to be a garbage truck driver because I thought it was so darn cool that the truck came by in the morning and the trash disappeared! Boy, were my parents enthusiastic about that! Since then, I’ve discovered a love for airplanes, and after working at NASA, I realized that I enjoyed working with people more than numbers alone. If designing airplanes isn’t for me, at least I can fly in them twice a week as a consultant!
What is your most treasured possession?
As a tech junkie, I would have to say my smartphone - I don’t know what I would do without it. It not only keeps me connected with friends and family but also tells me where to go. I can’t imagine having to drive around town with paper maps or going to restaurants before looking them up on Yelp first!
What is your most marked characteristic?
Being outspoken and honest. If I feel there is something wrong, I’m not afraid to confront it.
What is your greatest fear?
I actually can’t swim, so I would say drowning. For some reason, my body panics when I’m submerged in water. So, if you see me doing something involving water, I can guarantee you I have a life vest on!
If you had a super power, which super power would you have and why?
Aside from the super power which allows me to evolve other super powers, definitely flying. Forget time travel, reading minds, super strength or invulnerability – being able to fly like a bird is the ultimate freedom!
When was a time you felt you could do anything?
The seven minutes or so that I have spent in zero gravity, and when I saw (and felt – you can feel it, even miles away) the space shuttle launch. These were astounding experiences that truly opened my eyes to all of the endless possibilities that exist out there if we just put our hearts and minds to attaining them.
