Mark Mitchell - A Character With Character

Mark Mitchell - A Character With Character

...because interesting people are more fun to work with

by Mark Mitchell and Reagan Pugh on October 19th, 2012

I am perhaps one of the last Boomers. I am also an Eagle Scout and grew up on a horse farm tending to the stalls before heading off to work. I rose in my career within a family fabrication shop producing custom rescue vehicles where product lifecycle management (PLM) consisted of a steno-pad bill of materials and a hammer denoted as-required.  I’ve spent most of my career working with a handful of firms - the 90’s were the most memorable years, as I was teamed with my wife Sharon supporting the aerospace/defense industry delivering design solutions for full flight simulations. It was an absolute pleasure hanging around all kinds of aircraft, tanks, and going aboard Navy vessels. During those years, I took the summers off to be with my son, Matthew, attending several soccer camp programs just as a dad handing out water bottles and assisting with scraped knees. I am at the point in life where I’ve sold the SL600 and happily drive a truck (with heated seats of course). During my down time I’m either hanging out with Sharon, riding around the property on my tractor fake-mowing or back in the grove trying to figure out how to teach the squirrels not to eat all the peaches.

What is your most treasured possession?

I have two treasured possessions: my wedding ring and my wife’s smile. She is in control and maintains the life balance.

What is your most marked characteristic?

My father’s humor, which I inherited, coupled with passion. Some may find it irritating, some a stress reliever. My father is a gentle man of few words, one who worked hard every day and now enjoys observing his surroundings a day at a time. I aspire to be my father - with his humor.

What is your greatest fear?

It comes down to not yet figuring out what within the universe has perfect stillness. Or perhaps acceptance into the sixth dimension. These fears stem from a conversation with my father-in-law years ago - a conversation we never had a chance to finish.

If you had a super power, which super power would you have and why?

Nanosecond hearing and comprehension of all languages. I want to have understanding across all cultures.

When was a time you felt you could do anything?

Right after observing my wife giving birth to our son.
