Kalypso Journey: Chip Perry

by Jenna Dudevoir and Chip Perry on October 26th, 2010

Chip Perry, recently promoted to director, shares his Kalypso story.

Hey Chip, we heard the great news. Congratulations on your promotion to director!

Thank you. It's a really exciting time to be part of this firm.

Tell us what your career path at Kalypso has looked like.

I started with Kalypso four years ago in 2006 as a manager. Three years ago I was promoted to senior manager. Kalypso has grown rapidly both in terms of new people joining us and rapid promotions within the firm. You can structure a career plan and go after it as you choose. My first assignment was at a $79 billion consumer packaged goods (CPG) manufacturer. That was both challenging and exhilarating. Over the last four years I have been fortunate enough to work with other leading companies in the CPG industry.

What does being a Kalypso director mean to you?

I appreciate the vote of confidence in me by the Kalypso partners. It has been quite a journey to watch Kalypso grow over the last four years from 20 to over 100 employees.

What areas will you be focusing on in your new role?

I see an opportunity to help maintain and build our culture based on our values as I work with many newer Kalypsonians. I will also continue to help grow the client base through business development with both existing clients and new ones.

Where is the most interesting town/city you’ve been for a client project?

I’d have to say Princeton, NJ, home of one of our CPG clients. The client is great to work with and the town of Princeton and the university make for a great setting. Plus there are a lot of good restaurants in the area.

What is your favorite Kalypso value?

That’s easy. Leaders behind the leaders. Consultants are expected to add value and take charge to ensure the success of the engagement for our clients. But this value guides us to support our clients, to work hard to ensure their success, and that requires close collaboration. It’s also about checking one’s ego at the parking lot and keeping the client’s needs first.

In what ways have you grown professional and/or personally at Kalypso?

I have grown more comfortable in quickly sizing up a new situation as we start work with a new client.  Sometimes I have been involved during the defining of the work, other times I just show up and get to work.  Because of the great people on our Kalypso teams, and the experience and diversity of perspectives, we pull together and deliver terrific results.

Congratulations, Chip!
