James Weaver - A Character With Character
...because interesting people are more fun to work with
I’ve been married for twelve years and have four beautiful children (three daughters and a son), all under the age of ten – which makes my wife, Karen, a saint! I’ve been in client services for fifteen years and served honorably in the US Air Force before that. After my family, I have two passions: 1) I love to play golf, but I’m terrible at it, partly because I don’t have time to practice with four children, and mostly because – well, I’m terrible! 2) I’m an avid booster of Baylor Bear athletics, you know - RG3 (I was there when he locked up the Heisman!), awesome hoops and other great sports. Sic’em Bears! Interesting fact: In 1992, while I was serving in the Air Force in England, I was the head coach of the Stoke Spitfires (a UK semi-pro football team). While that’s sort of interesting, what makes it a worthy Kalypsonian characteristic is that this allowed me to become part of Bear Bryant’s coaching tree of head coaches! So, Bear Bryant coached Gene Stallings who then coached my high school coach, Mark Weaver (no relation)!
What historical figures do you most identify with?
Leaders who innovated and empowered their teams to out-perform their potential, making the whole greater than the sum of the individuals. Folks like Dwight Eisenhower, John Wooden and Steve Jobs.
What natural gift would you most like to possess?
Healing – I have a special needs child and if I could, I would do everything possible to aid him and all of those very special children.
What is your greatest fear?
Any harm coming to my family.
If you were to die and choose what to come back as, what would it be?
Big Tex – because everyone who attends the State Fair of Texas would be glad to see me and I would get to welcome them all and say, “Howdy folks”. I'd also get to wear boots and jeans to work!
When was a time you realized you had to “grow up”?
When I got off of the bus at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas for Boot Camp!
