Heather Arnold - A Character With Character

...because interesting people are more fun to work with

by Heather Arnold and Reagan Pugh on September 24th, 2012

I have always been a curious and adventurous person. I would say that the most exciting thing I’ve ever done was skydiving with my brother in Tampa, Florida. Freefalling is amazing - there are just no words to explain. I enjoy bike riding on trails and I have a recent scar on my right ankle to show for it. I just started signing up for competitive races and completed my first 5K Ninja Challenge obstacle course (yes, I am a ninja) and a half marathon this past summer. I do not like to see the glass as half empty or half full, but would rather think of how I can add more to the glass. I am optimistic and can find humor in almost anything. Laughing keeps me sane, happy and healthy.

On what occasion do you lie?

Apparently when I try to convince others that I do not, in fact, have a southern accent.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

When your friend drops your phone in a bowl of ranch dressing. It was a hard few days without texting and phone calls, but thank goodness for insurance.

Where would you like to live?

˙ɹǝpun uʍop puɐן ǝɥʇ 'ɐıןɐɹʇsnɐ uı ǝʌıן oʇ ǝʞıן pןnoʍ ı ˙ǝןbuɐ ʍǝu ɐ ɯoɹɟ pןɹoʍ ǝɥʇ ʍǝıʌ oʇ ןooɔ ǝq pןnoʍ ʇı ʞuıɥʇ ı

I have often tried (and failed) to talk like an Aussie; I think their accents are fun! I would love to have a cookout and officially announce that there is “shrimp on the barbie!” Also, I’ve always been fascinated by kangaroos and think traveling from one destination to the next in their cute little pouches would be a bit more comfortable than your every day plane ride.

If you were a bird, which bird would you be and why?

I’d be a pink flamingo because, well, they are pink. They get to wade around in the water all day and they look so good sunbathing just about anywhere. They also have a mischievous side and occasionally end up in someone’s front yard. I would say that flamingos are fairly humble creatures, but how humble can you really be when you have hotels and casinos named after you? Their global distribution is primarily in very warm areas. I love the sun, warmth, publicity and the color pink. I would make a great flamingo!

When was a time you were supremely optimistic about the future?

Right now! When I received the offer to be a part of the Kalypso team, I was very enthusiastic. I knew the consulting lifestyle would be a perfect fit because I love to travel and meet new people. I wanted a job that would allow me to see growth in my leadership abilities and understanding of innovation. Now that I have started my first project with Will Pike and Chip Perry, I see their passion for the work we are doing and it is truly contagious. I am supremely optimistic about being a constant student, learning from the best (all of the other Kalypsonians) and delivering on the promise of innovation.
