Gerry Miller - A Character With Character
...because interesting people are more fun to work with
I love the outdoors and really cherish any time I get to hike mountains and canoe swift rivers. Hunting and golf are fun, especially the part that involves walking outdoors and enjoying the scenery (that is why I rarely make par and don’t have a wall covered with trophies). I get into home improvement projects (sometimes over my head) - for example, I replaced my wall-to-wall carpeting with marble tile and built a fish pond and waterfall in the past year. I am also trying to learn how to play piano so I can someday create my own R&B music.
Your favorite virtue?
Humility, coupled with courage of conviction.
Your favorite travel destination?
The Port of Eden in New South Wales, Australia.
Who are your favorite heroes of fiction?
Uhtred of Bebbanburg, the protagonist in a Saxon Stories novel series by Bernard Cornwell. Uhtred, a Pagan, lived in 9th Century Britain and was very complex in his loyalty and general attitude.
If you were a publication, which publication would you be and why?
The Quarterly Journal of Austrian Economics. If a Libertarian were ever to win the US Presidency, the world would be a much better place.
When was a time you felt you were the only person who “got it”?
One such time was in 2001 while sitting with six German management consulting colleagues at a table at Brauhaus Ernst August in Hannover, Germany. The topic of discussion was “unionizing” the profession of management consulting in Germany and I was the only one arguing against the approach.
