Frederik Delacourt - A Character With Character

Frederik Delacourt - A Character With Character

...because interesting people are more fun to work with

by Frederik Delacourt and Reagan Pugh on September 14th, 2012

Several people have made the assumption that I was fired from France for not drinking or smoking. If France did fire me, then I was coincidentally welcomed with fireworks when I came to the US on July 4th, 1998! At first, I lived the quiet lifestyle of a geek as an R&D developer until I discovered the world of business. I've run a limited and quickly declining online business in the evenings selling home automation and home theater products. I tried to create a second business while getting my MBA by designing home automation software. Lately, I've calmed down a little on new business creation, but I'm always evaluating ideas and building empires in my head while learning through consulting how the real companies are operating!

What is your most treasured possession?

This is a hard question - I'm assuming we should exclude family and other living things? I would have to say my 32-year-old plane. It's my passport to escape Bentonville, Arkansas and explore the US. My next most prized possession is a 1999 Pontiac Trans Am WS6, my first car! It's a one-owner vehicle and only has 42,000 miles!

What is your most marked characteristic?

My dual personality. In business settings I have no problem talking to anyone, giving advice or speaking publicly. In my personal life, however, I have a difficult time making conversation in small groups of people.

What is your greatest fear?

Running out of conversation topics!

If you had a super power, which super power would you have and why?

Speak every language FLUENTLY as to lift any ambiguity from situations. This way I wouldn’t tell a nice lady I was having diner with that I was happy to have her for diner! I think women prefer to be had as guests, not with a side of fava beans and chianti…

When was a time you felt you could do anything?

Every morning when I wake up! As a kid, I was told on many occasions that I wasn’t going to amount to much. I’ve since proven many people wrong by relocating to a foreign country, receiving two graduate degrees, flying planes, and deepening my skills in photography, video, woodworking and stained glasswork.
