Biju Jatheendran - A Character With Character
...because interesting people are more fun to work with
Time: 8.52pm. Place: 30,000 feet in the sky on a flight from Minneapolis to Houston. My mission: To write a brief bio in 150 words. Man, this is tough. Here it goes: I was born in 1979 and wasted the first five years of my life. In 1984 I moved to India to attend school and learned to speak Hindi. Sort of. I moved to Germany in 1986, learned to speak German and developed a taste for Bratwurst, Sauerkraut, and Wiener schnitzels. 1990 took me to Bangalore, India where I finished school, college, developed software for five years and got married. I decided to take a short break for three weeks in 2005. I came to the US in 2006 to attend graduate school and in 2008 I completed my MBA, started work at Kalypso, survived a hurricane and became a father. There have been four amazing years of jet-setting and client service work since. Life is good. Mission accomplished.
What is your most marked characteristic?
I get along well with people because I like to hear their side of the story and I respect their opinions and perspectives. I also have an insatiable appetite for anything grilled.
Who would you have liked to be?
Why, myself of course. I wouldn’t want to change a thing. But seriously – I think it’d be cool to be the Incredible Hulk. That way, no matter how much larger I grow, my pants always fit.
What historical figure do you most identify with?
Ok tough one - I never paid much attention in history class. I asked the internet and it told me I was Pythagoras in a past life.
If you were a film, which film would you be and why?
The Pursuit of Happyness. It’s a great, true story of how you deal with life’s roadblocks and never, ever give up. I’d like to believe that I live my life by the same credo.
When was a time you overcame a seemingly insurmountable obstacle?
Dealing with the birth of my first child during one of the worst recorded hurricanes to hit the south central US. There was no water, no food, and no electricity. It was a pretty harrowing experience, but we managed to pull through it with the help of friends and family.
