Adam Elboim - A Character With Character

I was born in Boston on the hottest and stickiest day in recent history – 112 degrees (my mother will never let me forget it). After sophomore year at Colby College, I became a nomad, moving twelve times in the next 10 years; I drove cross-country four times and lived in three countries. My nomadic tendencies carried into my professional experience as well. After only two years in the corporate world at Standard & Poor’s, I started a medical equipment outsourcing company with my father in California. We only lost a few hundred thousand dollars on the venture! The experience got me into business school at Duke, though, where I met my lovely wife, learned to ride bulls and eat barbeque. I was also able to continue to fuel my passion for innovation through several more startups. Consulting at Kalypso has been a natural evolution for me – it allows me to be a nomad and keep the same business card. On the weekends I become Bob the Builder, renovating houses with my wife. We’re always on the lookout for our next project.

What is your most treasured possession?

My passport. I always carry it with me in case I need to make a clean get-away.

What is your most marked characteristic?

My chameleon abilities. Blond, brunet, long hair, short hair, goatee, clean-shaven, glasses, contacts, young, and less young-looking. Maybe you’ve seen me before…or maybe you haven’t.

What do you most value in your friends?

The fact that they sometimes laugh at my jokes. If it wasn’t for them, it would be just me laughing at my jokes (which happens often).

If you were a dinosaur, which dinosaur would you be and why?

A dilophosaurus. They spit a venomous mucus onto their prey to incapacitate them. I can name at least three people I’d like to do that to daily - normally in an airport or a grocery store.

When was a time you felt all was right with the world?

The day the federal government shut down in 1995 - ah, silence. Hey, it was a start, wasn’t it?
